Working as a self-employed artist with a disability (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Sjogren’s Syndrome) is sometimes difficult. I can’t work as many hours in a day as healthy people do, and I have to take more days off. That said, I refuse to let my health get in the way of my dream of becoming a world-renowned animal artist. So I keep going; I keep painting.
One of my goals has always been to set aside some time to start painting artworks of endangered species to raise awareness and promote education about wildlife conservation. I’d love to donate these artworks to be auctioned off to help fund wildlife charities. Creating art for this purpose doesn’t result in income, so it has been difficult for me to achieve with the work/time constraints of my health condition.
With this in mind, I recently started a Patreon fundraiser account. It will help finance these artworks for wildlife conservation. Your support will also go to fund art supplies and sometimes for necessities such as food when money is tight.
What is Patreon?
I like to think of Patreon as a virtual tip jar. It is a way for people to support creators and artists they love with a small monthly donation. In return, as a way to say thank you, creators give rewards or perks for those donations.
